ACP Arizona and other physician groups in Arizona are urging patients to base healthcare decisions on credible information and counseling from a trusted physician or medical professional amid confusion stemming from misinformation and partisan tension.
As the governor for the American College of Physicians-Arizona Chapter and representing its over 2600 members in the state, we agree with this important statement from the House of Medicine in Arizona. It is critical in this time with so much medical misinformation that the people of Arizona know that we stand with them to ensure their medical decisions are made between them and their physician based on the best scientific information free of the politics of the moment.
– Allan L Markus, ACP-AZ Governor
Press Release: Arizona Medical Association
PHOENIX, Arizona — The physician community is increasingly concerned about the negative impacts of political and corporate interference on patients’ health. The spread of misinformation and a rise in partisan battles over healthcare are distracting our communities from the quality care patients deserve and physicians are trained to deliver.
The Arizona Medical Association (ArMA), the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AzAAP), the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians (AzAFP), the Arizona Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AzACOG), the Arizona Healthcare Advocacy Coalition (AHAC), and the undersigned physician-led organizations stand behind healthcare informed by:
- Rigorous scientific evidence and peer-reviewed research
- The clinical expertise and professional judgment of licensed physicians
- Established, widely recognized medical guidelines and best practices
- The individual needs and circumstances of each patient and their health
- Ethical principles that prioritize patient health, safety, and well-being
Arizona’s physician community is calling on elected officials across the political spectrum to support a healthcare system where public health and medical decisions are made based on scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and individual patient needs. As physicians advocate for a reimagined healthcare system, they want patients to know: your care is at our core — not politics, not profit, not partisanship.
